Best All-Wheel-Drive New Cars for Driving in the Snow

Winter is almost here and if you live in an area of the country that receives a lot of snow, you may be interested in purchasing a new vehicle that handles well in harsh winter conditions.

Buying a car equipped with all-wheel-drive (AWD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD) is the first step in protecting you and your family when driving in incliment weather. However, not all all-wheel-drive systems are equal.

Consumer Reports did a survey asking subscribers who owned SUVS and wagons to rate their vehicles' performance in ice and snow conditions. Up to 92 percent of subscribers said they thought their AWD and 4WD wagons and SUVs did "very good" at performance in the snow. The responses also prove some 4WD and AWD vehicles perform much better than others.

Almost 48,000 subscribers responded to the survey, they had driven their 2012-2015 model cars on six snow covered days during the 2014-15 winter season without changing to winter tires.

The top three spots on the best snow traction list all belong to Subaru with the number one spot belonging to the Subaru Outback. The base manufactuer suggested retail price (MSRP) range for a 2016 Outback is $24,995 - $33,395.

Below are the SUVS and wagons with the best snow traction AWD and 4WD sytems available on the market in.

Competition Between Car Dealers Always Gets You the Best Price

When negotiating a new car's price, it’s important to know the dealer invoice price and what other people are paying for the same vehicle in your local area. Otherwise, you won’t know what's a good price to pay for the vehicle. I highly recommend using an online referral service such as CarClearanceDeals or CarsDirect, their quotes will automatically include any discounts or cash-back incentives currently available in the marketplace.
