Best and Worst 2015 New Car Models for Tall Drivers
One of the priorities a tall driver looks for when new car shopping is finding a vehicle they can easily get into, out of, or ride in comfortably. Other obstacles a vehicle has to overcome before being considered by a taller person is it must have enough head and leg room so the larger person may easily move around.
Other than large SUVs or full size trucks, it may prove to be difficult to find a vehicle that accommodates a tall persons larger size. The good news is, there are several smaller and mid-sized cars on the market today that will more than accommodate the larger or tall driver.
On average, the population has been growing taller over the past few decades. The best cars for tall drivers allow easy access for getting in and out of the vehicle, they also provide telescoping and tilt steering wheels to provide additional room. Vehicles that provide adequate leg and head room are important safety considerations as well. Taller drivers are also most comfortable in vehicles that are equipped with seat-height adjustment and enough space between the foot pedals to accommodate their larger feet. Adequate leg and head room is also an important comfort and safety consideration as well.
Compacts and sports cars make up the majority of worst cars for tall drivers. Sports cars are very difficult for the larger driver to get in and out of and compact cars are just that, compact. Vehicles such as the 2015 Lexus GS and the 2015 Honda Odyssey rate very high with taller drivers with their abundance of head and leg room, while the 2015 Porsche 911 and the 2015 Ford Fiesta ST will make a larger person feel cramped and claustrophobic.
To find out which cars are the most safe, comfortable and the "best fit" for tall people. The well known company Consumer Reports, tested several different vehicles using different sized drivers, the smallest driver was 5 feet 1 inch and the tallest driver was 6 feet 2 inches. They looked at how at how the different sized drivers rated seat comfort, access, driving position, and the driver's view from the cockpit.
If you're a family with a mixture of short and tall drivers, there are a few cars that ranked very well with both. The 2015 Subaru Forester and 2015 Honda Accord where the two best rated vehicles for both tall and short drivers. If you'd like to know which 2015 model vehicles rated the best for short drivers, read my previous article; Top 10 Best and Worst New Cars for Short Drivers.
