Best and Worst Cars by Brand

I've always said, "it doesn't matter what brand name is on a car, vehicles are machines and they all have the possibility of breaking down."

It would be great if we knew who makes the best car. The truth is, every brand offers several different types of vehicles and some of these vehicles are just more reliable than others.

So which of these vehicles exceed expectaions? Consumer Reports has analyzed their test results and put together a list that provides you with the information on the best and worst models by brand name.

The list includes brands that have had at least three models tested. The brands excluded from the list at this time are Tesla, Smart, Ram, and Maserati. The test score varies from brand to brand. Some brands, the spread between best and worst is very minor. Others have a rather wide range between them, so this makes comparing them very misleading.

For example, the Cadillac lineup is pretty constant, with just a 15 point spread. However, with its wide range of products, Chevrolet has a 50 point spread between the Corvette and the Spark. Some other interesting point spreads include the Lexus with 31 points, Toyota with 40 points, and Mitsubishi with 43 points.
